On 1 November 2024, H.E. Mrs. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, during Thailand’s Country Coordinatorship for ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Dialogue Relations, joined H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, and H.E. Mr. Lee Jang-keun, Ambassador of the ROK to ASEAN, in delivering the opening remarks at the 6th ASEAN-Korea Day which was held at The Langham, Jakarta and was attended by the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, diplomatic corps, and distinguished guests.

Ambassador Ekarohit paid tribute to the evolvement of ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations which was established in 1989 and is celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year, as well as the solidified cooperation through the ASEAN-led mechanisms that led to the elevation of their relations to the level of “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” announced by the ASEAN and ROK’s leaders in October 2024. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is the highest level of relations that ASEAN has with its dialogue partners and the ROK was the 6th Dialogue Partner of ASEAN that has been accorded such status.

Thailand and ROK are also scheduled to co-host another “ASEAN-Korea Day” event in Bangkok on 26 November 2024 to celebrate this important milestone of ASEAN-ROK relations.
