On 23 March 2022, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, attended the 22nd ASEAN-India Joint Cooperation Committee Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat. At the Meeting, Ambassador Sriphiromya gave a briefing on sustainable development cooperation within ASEAN, the work of the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) initiated by Thailand, as the ASEAN Chair in 2019, particularly the BCG Knowledge Sharing Series, and invited India to undertake projects to promote sustainable development in ASEAN. Thailand, as the host of APEC 2022 will also push forward economic cooperation under the theme “Open. Connect. Balance.”

At the Meeting, Ambassador Sriphiromya also congratulated ASEAN and India on the 30th Anniversary of Dialogue Relations this year and expressed Thailand’s commitment to further strengthen the ASEAN-India cooperation, as India has been a good friend of Thailand for a long time and Thailand also served as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations from 2018 to 2021. Thailand stands ready to work with India to promote sustainable post-pandemic recovery and the timely completion of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and its extension to Cambodia, the Lao PDR, and Viet Nam. She also proposed the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model as an alternative approach towards balanced economic, social and environmental development.

Moreover, the ASEAN and India discussed a wide range of activities to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Dialogue Relations, including cultural activities and online activities through social media, such as the ASEAN-India Music Festival, the ASEAN-India Artist Camp, and the ASEAN-India Logo & Tag-Line Competition, as well as the designation of the year 2022 as “ASEAN-India Friendship Year”
