On 24 March 2026, first- to third-year cadets from the Royal Thai Naval Academy, who are undergoing overseas sea training aboard HTMS Angthong and HTMS Prachuap Khiri Khan, arrived in Jakarta to conduct practical training and engage in educational exchanges between Thailand and Indonesia.

On this occasion, the Rear Admiral Chalit Buathong, Commander of the Naval Cadet Training Squadron, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Prapan Disyatat, Ambassador to Jakarta, and H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta, on 27 March 2026. The Ambassadors received a briefing on the training mission and exchanged views on maritime security—a key issue under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship agenda in 2026. Furthermore, both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening maritime cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia as strategic partners, thereby promoting robust collaboration within relevant ASEAN frameworks, particularly the annual ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting (ANCM).

ASEAN provides platforms which also include the issue of maritime cooperation, such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus), which comprises Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and the United States.
