On 28 January 2026, H.E. Ms. Joanna Jane Anderson, Ambassador of New Zealand to ASEAN, paid an introductory call on H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN in Jakarta.

Both sides exchanged views on ways to advance ASEAN-New Zealand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including efforts to combat transnational crime, particularly trafficking in persons and online scams; trade and investment; people-to-people exchanges; sustainable development; climate change adaptation; disaster management; and humanitarian assistance. They also exchanged views on the opportunities and challenges arising from the evolving geopolitical landscape, as well as the importance of further strengthening ASEAN–New Zealand relations in this context. Ambassador Anderson reaffirmed New Zealand’s readiness to support ASEAN through the ASEAN-New Zealand Vision Fund, which was recently established in 2025 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN–New Zealand dialogue relations.

The ASEAN-New Zealand dialogue relationship was established in 1975 and elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in 2025.
