On 27 January 2026, H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, paid an introductory call on H.E. Dr. Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to ASEAN, at the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to ASEAN in Jakarta.

Both sides exchanged views on the opportunities and challenges facing ASEAN at present, the important role of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, the promotion of sustainable development cooperation, maritime security and the South China Sea, the role of subregional mechanisms in supporting ASEAN’s work, as well as the conduct of ASEAN’s external relations. Both sides agreed that it is imperative to ensure that ASEAN delivers tangible outcomes and benefits for its peoples.

Viet Nam acceded to ASEAN on 28 July 1995 as the seventh Member State. At present, Viet Nam serves as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-New Zealand and ASEAN-United Kingdom dialogue relations from 2024 to 2027.
