On 10 June 2022, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, attended the 2nd ASEAN-Italy Development Partnership Committee (ASEAN-Italy DPC) Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat. The 2nd ASEAN-Italy DPC Meeting adopted the ASEAN-Italy Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) (2022-2026) which provides guidance for ASEAN-Italy cooperation following ASEAN’s conferment of Development Partnership on Italy in 2020. The PCA takes into account post-pandemic recovery and sustainable development which is an area that Thailand has been promoting as the ASEAN Coordinator for Sustainable Development Cooperation.
Ambassador Sriphiromya gave a briefing on sustainable development cooperation within ASEAN, particularly the annual High-Level Brainstorming Dialogue on Enhancing Complementarities between
the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLBD) which has been co-hosted by Thailand and the UNESCAP since 2017, the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model and the work of the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) including the Centre’s co-convening, with Italy, of the Forum on Sustainable Consumption and Production in March 2022.
The Meeting also took note of ASEAN’s and Italy’s interests to enhance cooperation in the areas of clean energy, especially research on hydrogen energy, climate action, sustainable tourism, space technology, and support for MSMEs.
