On 19 January 2026, Ms. Parinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Latifah Zaini, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to ASEAN, to introduce herself following the assumption of her duties. The meeting took place at the Permanent Mission of Brunei Darussalam to ASEAN at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.

On this occasion, Ambassador Apirat commended Brunei Darussalam for its leadership in initiating the ASEAN Junior Fellowship Programme, a key legacy initiative of Brunei Darussalam’s ASEAN Chairmanship. Now in its fifth edition, the programme has attracted growing collaboration from ASEAN Dialogue Partners.

Ambassador Apirat also expressed appreciation for Brunei Darussalam’s role as Country Coordinator for ASEAN–EU Dialogue Relations and extended Thailand’s support for the preparation of outcome documents for the upcoming ASEAN–EU Ministerial Meeting.

Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to work closely within the framework of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) to advance ASEAN priorities. Thailand reiterated its firm adherence to ASEAN principles, norms, and consultative processes.

The two Ambassadors also exchanged views on opportunities and challenges in the work of the CPR, as well as on ways to strengthen ASEAN’s cooperation with Dialogue Partners and external partners, particularly regional organisations, and to support the role and work of the ASEAN Secretariat, as well as the coordination between the ASEAN Centres of Excellence.
