On 13 April 2022, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, attended a meeting between His Excellency Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East) and the Senior Officials’ Meeting Leader of India, and the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Ambassador Sriphiromya congratulated India on the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations and the designation of year 2022 as the “ASEAN-India Friendship Year”. She raised the issue of the timely completion of India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highways and also proposed that ASEAN and India enhance partnership in mutually beneficial areas where both side have expertise such as the full utilization of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement, sustainable development, smart agriculture, blue economy, marine debris management, as well as sustainable use of marine resources.
In addition, both sides also discussed ASEAN-India cooperation in other spheres such people-to-people connectivity, MSMEs promotion, and COVID-19 responses. The Meeting also welcomed India’s request for a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN, which is currently under ASEAN’s consideration.
