On 13 February 2026, H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, attended the 26th ASEAN-India Joint Cooperation Committee Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat.

Ambassador Prinat briefed the Meeting on Thailand’s efforts, in its capacity as the ASEAN Coordinator for Sustainable Development Cooperation, to advance the implementation of the SDGs in the region. She also suggested that ASEAN and India move forward with their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership by enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, particularly connectivity, economic integration, digitalisation, and sustainable development.

The Meeting also welcomed the designation of year 2026 as the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation.

ASEAN–India relations were formally established in 1992 with India becoming a Sectoral Dialogue Partner. The relationship was subsequently elevated to a Dialogue Partner in 1995 and to a Strategic Partner in 2012. Later, at the 19th ASEAN–India Summit in November 2022, both sides upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
