On 6 June 2023, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, delivered her remarks at the opening ceremony of the “Exhibition of Commemorative Panels: For the 50^th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation,” at the ASEAN Secretariat, together with H.E. KIYA Masahiko, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, H.E. Robert Matheus Michael Tene, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community. In attendance were H.E. Ekkaphab Phanthavong, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, staff from the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, Japanese students from the Jakarta Japanese School, and staff of the ASEAN Secretariat. 

H.E. Sriphiromya commended Japan as one of the oldest partners of ASEAN that consistently respects ASEAN’s Centrality and supports ASEAN’s principles and objectives, based on a solid foundation of heart-to-heart partnership between the peoples of ASEAN and Japan. The participation of the Japanese youth today would give an inspiration for them to strengthen ties between ASEAN and Japan both from Government-to-Government and from people-to-people.

This year, ASEAN and Japan commemorates 50 Years of Friendship and Cooperation under the theme “Golden Friendship, Golden Opportunity.” As the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Japan Dialogue Relations, Thailand is proud to work closely with Japan and other ASEAN Member States to advance cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of ASEAN and Japan.
