On 20 June 2025, Her Excellency Mrs. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN represented Thailand at the 21st ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (AMMSTI-21), held at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Jakarta, the Republic of Indonesia.
At the meeting, Thailand joined fellow ASEAN Member States in adopting the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation (APASTI) 2026–2035, and witnessed the official launch of the full APASTI document, as well as the ASEAN Regional Research Infrastructure (RRI) Landscape Study, during the opening ceremony.
On this occasion, the Ambassador delivered a national statement affirming Thailand’s strong commitment to advancing regional cooperation in science, technology, and innovation (STI) under the new APASTI framework. She highlighted five key strategic areas to drive ASEAN STI cooperation forward, including (1) human capital development, (2) the development and sharing of STI infrastructure, (3) enhanced public-private collaboration on technology transfer, (4) joint solutions to regional challenges, and (5) equitable access to STI benefits. These priorities aim to support the APASTI 2026–2035 vision of an integrated ASEAN advanced by science, technology, and innovation, fostering seamless collaboration, global competitiveness, sustainability, social inclusion, and economic growth for a prosperous future over the next decade.
The 22nd AMMSTI is scheduled to be held in June 2026 in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
