On 11 February 2022, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, attended the 29th ASEAN-EU Joint Cooperation Committee Meeting via videoconferencing. At the Meeting, Ambassador Sriphiromya gave a briefing to the Meeting on sustainable development cooperation within ASEAN and with the EU, particularly the work of the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) and the ASEAN-EU Dialogue on Sustainable Development, both of which were initiated by Thailand, as the ASEAN Chair in 2019 and the ASEAN Coordinator for Sustainable Development Cooperation, the area which the EU gives high priority.
At this meeting, the EU determined to further strengthen cooperation with Thailand and ASEAN on environment, green economy, energy and connectivity. Both sides agree to speed up the conclusion of economic agreements especially on an establishment of FTA and comprehensive air transport. In addition, both sides are working on new Plan of Action for the next years.
Prior to the Meeting, Ambassador Sriphiromya also witnessed the unveiling of the ASEAN-EU 45th Anniversary Logo which reflects the close and long-standing ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership. On this important occasion, the EU plans to host the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit later this year in Brussels.
