On 6 January 2023, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to ASEAN, exchanged views with the Danish Ambassadors based in Asia and Australia in an interactive discussion on “the Terms for Multilateralism in the New Geopolitical Context”, held at the ASEAN Secretariat.  The discussion was also participated by H.E. Jesper Møller Sørensen, Denmark’s State Secretary for Foreign Policy, H.E. I Gede Ngurah Swajaya, Special Advisor to the Foreign Minister of Indonesia for Regional Diplomacy, and H.E. Robert Matheus Michael Tene, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community.

During the discussion, Ambassador Sriphiromya expressed her support for multilateralism in ASEAN which forms a solid foundation for cooperation in the region. The convening of 3 major meetings in ASEAN countries last year - the G20 Summit in Indonesia, the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia, and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Thailand - has provided platforms for dialogue on important global issues. She also highlighted key ASEAN achievements including the conclusion of RCEP, the response to COVID-19, and the provision of humanitarian assistance. In the new geopolitical context, the international community should enhance its cooperation with international organizations in the region. Thailand, as the ASEAN Coordinator for Sustainable Development Cooperation, suggests that Denmark further deepen cooperation with ASEAN in several areas, including sustainable development, particularly through the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogues (ACSDSD) in Bangkok.
