On 19 May 2022, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, and Ms. Rutaichanok Jingjit, Minister Counsellor (AEC) and Economic Official at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN, as well as other Permanent Representatives to ASEAN visited Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI), an electric vehicle production facility in Bekasi, West Java, upon the invitation of the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN.
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia was established in 2019 to become a hub of electric vehicle (EV) production in ASEAN. The EV production began in January 2022 with the capacity of 150,000 units a year, with the possibility of reaching the maximum capacity of 250,000 units per year. Apart from the production of electric vehicles, Hyundai Motor also aims to produce batteries and other accessories for electric vehicles in order to build an EV ecosystem in ASEAN. Ambassador Sriphiromya and other participants also visited the assembly line and participated in a test drive.
