On 26 May 2026, H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, attended the 16th ASEAN-Australia Joint Cooperation Committee Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta.
Ambassador Prinat reaffirmed the importance of ASEAN-Australia relations as a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which marks its 5th anniversary this year. She also proposed ways to further enhance practical cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the areas of green transition and sustainable development, combating transnational crime, especially online scams, and public health cooperation.
Australia reaffirmed its support for ASEAN centrality and ASEAN-led mechanisms, while expressing its commitment to expanding cooperation with ASEAN to strengthen regional resilience, particularly in combating transnational crime, maritime security, trade, digital economy, clean energy, education, disaster management and humanitarian assistance, public health, as well as advancing the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
The ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations were formally established in 1974 and elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2014. Both sides subsequently announced the establishment of an ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021.
