On 2 March 2022, H.E. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, and Ms. Rutaichanok Jingjit, Minister Counsellor (AEC) and Economic Official at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN, visited the Thailand’s Paradise 2022 event at the AEON Mall BSD. Ms. Bhornbhat Punngok, Director of Thai Trade Center Jakarta, and Ms. Puncharat Muansoy, Counsellor (Agricultural), Acting Director of the Office of Agricultural Affairs, introduced Ambassador Sriphiromya to a variety of Thai products on offer including Thai condiments, curry pastes, instant food products, confectionary, fresh fruits, and beverages.  Col. Kittisak Petchnoi, Army Attaché and Capt. Dulyawat Chaowadee RTN, Naval Attaché, also joined the event along with their spouses.

Ambassador Sriphiromya gave a live interview on AEON Mall’s Instagram account on the benefits of ASEAN for Thailand’s exports. As the Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, Ambassador Sriphiromya affirmed that economic cooperation in ASEAN, especially the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement or AFTA, signed in 1992, and the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, has benefited not only Thailand but also Indonesia, making it cheaper for both countries to export a greater variety of products to each other, given zero tariff. High quality Thai products can be found in several Indonesian supermarkets at prices not so different from what they are in Thailand, and vice versa. Ambassador Sriphiromya also made known to the public the business opportunities arisen from the entry into force since 2022 of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership or RCEP Agreement which is set to become the world’s largest free trade agreement. The RCEP Agreement ushers new business and employment opportunities, strengthens supply chains in the region, and promotes the participation of micro, small and medium enterprises in the regional economic systems.

After the interview, Ambassador Sriphiromya and the chef from “Bo-lan” Thai restaurant demonstrated the cooking of Thai fish cakes or “Tod Man Pla” with local ingredients to an Indonesian audience.

The Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN cordially invites you to attend the Thailand’s Paradise 2022 event which will be held at all AEON Stores across Jakarta until 9 March 2022.
