On 2 May 2024, H.E. Mr. Yohannes Abraham, U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mrs. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to ASEAN, at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN in Jakarta. Both sides discussed ways to advance the ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including through enhancing cooperation in the areas of mutual intertest such as trade and investment, public health security, clean energy, digital transformation, cybersecurity, smart cities, climate change and people-to-people ties.

Ambassador Phantipha emphasised that the U.S. is a close and long-standing ally of Thailand and the ASEAN region. ASEAN and the U.S. established dialogue relations in 1977, and elevated their partnership to a strategic level in 2015. Both sides agreed to establish the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.
