On 15 August 2024, H.E. Mrs. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to ASEAN, attended the annual meeting between the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) and the National Coordinators of the Pacific Alliance at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Ambassador Phantipha briefed the meeting on Thailand’s efforts, in its capacity as the ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation, to promote the attainment of the SDGs in the region. She also suggested that the Pacific Alliance explores cooperation with the relevant ASEAN Centres, such as the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue in Thailand, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity in the Philippines and the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change in Brunei Darussalam.
Pacific Alliance is composed of 4 countries, namely Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. The group formalised its relations with ASEAN in 2014 through the first ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministerial Meeting on the sidelines of the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Both sides also conduct regular engagement through the annual Meeting between the CPR and the Group of External Relations of the Pacific Alliance, which was subsequently renamed as the National Coordinators of the Pacific Alliance.
