On 14 August 2024, H.E. Mrs. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to ASEAN, attended the inaugural ASEAN-Peru Development Partnership Committee Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat.

Ambassador Phantipha suggested potential areas of cooperation, including trade and investment, digital transformation and sustainable development, which ASEAN and Peru may include in the Practical Cooperation Areas - a document that will provide a framework for cooperation between ASEAN and Peru. 

Peru was conferred the status of Development Partner of ASEAN in January 2024. The ASEAN-Peru Development Partnership Committee Meeting was subsequently established as the annual forum between the Committee of the Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) and Ambassador of Peru to ASEAN to discuss ways forward for enhancing cooperation between ASEAN and Peru.
