Permanent Representatives of Thailand and Timor-Leste Explore Future Collaboration in ASEAN

On 21 April 2026, H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, received H.E. Ms. Elisa Maria da Silva, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to ASEAN, at the Thailand Country Room, ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta.


During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on Timor-Leste’s recent developments following its accession to ASEAN as the 11th member. Ambassador Prinat congratulated Timor-Leste on the progress made in implementing its accession roadmap and reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to support Timor-Leste in promoting capacity-building activities in areas of priority for Timor-Leste. She also highlighted Thailand’s willingness to share its experience in preparing for its future role as ASEAN Chair.


Both sides also discussed future cooperation within the ASEAN frameworks, including efforts to narrow the development gap through the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI), advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and its relevant Strategic Plans, and engaging with ASEAN’s external partners. Thailand expressed its intention to work closely with Timor-Leste at all levels to strengthen cooperation further and promote shared interests.


Timor-Leste became a Member State of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on 26 October 2025 during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
