On 20 April 2026, H.E. Mr. Agung Kurniadi, Indonesia’s Representative to the Governing Council of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN, in her capacity as Thailand’s Representative to the Governing Council of the ASEAN-IPR, at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN in Jakarta.
Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to work closely together to advance the work of the ASEAN-IPR. They also agreed to promote a broader range of activities and research undertaken by the Institute, particularly on non-traditional security issues, including climate change, food and energy security, and transnational crime, with a view to strengthening ASEAN’s resilience and preparedness in addressing emerging challenges.
ASEAN-IPR was established pursuant to the Joint Statement on the Establishment of an ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation adopted at the 18th ASEAN Summit on 8 May 2011. The Institute serves as a mechanism for promoting conflict resolution in the region as well as enhancing research and activities on peace, conflict management, and conflict resolution. Its operations were officially launched on 18 May 2012, following the decision of the 21st ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh.
