On 16 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Sujiro Seam, Ambassador of the EU to ASEAN, called on H.E. Ms. Prinat Apirat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN in Jakarta.

Both sides exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming 25^th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting to be held on 27-28 April 2026 in Bandar Seri Begawan, and on ways to advance ASEAN-EU cooperation in areas of mutual interest and benefits, including climate action, digitalisation, education, energy security, and combatting online scams, on which the EU wishes to have ministerial dialogue with ASEAN.

In addition, Ambassador Seam reiterated the EU’s proposal to establish the ASEAN-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as to convene an ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in 2027 to commemorate the 50^th anniversary of the Dialogue Relations.

The ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations were established in 1977 and elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2020.
